THE EDITORS
Tom Greeves and Elisabeth Stanbrook are experienced Dartmoor writers and researchers, both with a wealth of knowledge and an excellent reputation for fact-finding, plus careful analysis and comment. Tom Greeves has known Dartmoor all his life, and has extensive research interests on the moor, especially relating to tinworking. As an archaeologist he was the first Sites & Monuments Register (now the Historic Environment Record) Officer for Devon 1976 -1979, and was the first archaeologist to join Dartmoor National Park 1979 - 1985. He then spent 41/2 years working with the leading environmental arts group Common Ground. Since 1990 he has worked independently as a cultural environmentalist. He has written extensively about Dartmoor, in both books and articles, and is passionate about the landscape and its human story. His lectures and guided walks are much in demand. Since 1998 he has been Chairman of the highly respected Dartmoor Society. Elisabeth Stanbrook spent 23 years as founder and Editor of Dartmoor Magazine before selling it in 2008. She believed in bringing to the reader both interesting and thought-provoking features not often found elsewhere. Honesty and integrity were important to her, so she did not shy away from revealing an alternative viewpoint or additional information absent from some press releases or news items sent by official bodies, especially where public money was involved. During these years she also undertook extensive and original historical research resulting in the publication of several well-received books including Dartmoor's War Prison and Church 1805-1817 (which was given the 'Devon Book of the Year' Commended Award). Her Dartmoor Forest Farms – A Social History from Enclosure to Abandonment received much acclaim, reviews of the time recognising that it 'breaks new ground' and 'will undoubtedly become the standard reference work on the subject'. Her latest book, Bishop Rock Lighthouse, has been described as 'scholarly in its detail and human in its focus'. She also researches family history for clients. |
